Long Hair Transplant
Patients may opt undergo “long hair transplant”. This technique involves leaving the donor hair long. Then, when the follicles are transplanted they can instantly see what their final results will look like! Patients should still expect shedding of some or all of the transplanted hairs prior to their permanent growth. However, it can be exciting to leave the office with a preview of how the transplanted hair will look in its final form.
Long Hair FUT (strip harvesting)
The advantage of long hair FUT is that patients can instantly preview the final result of their hair transplant. The placement of long hair grafts is more time-consuming because it easier for the grafts to be dislodged. Based on the extra time required, there is an added fee.
Long Hair FUE (follicular unit excision)
The advantage of long hair FUE is that donor hair in the occipital scalp does not need to be shaved. The harvesting and the placement are both more time-consuming because of the extra effort required to carefully remove the follicular groupings and then place them back in the scalp. Based on the added time required for both harvesting and placement there is an added fee.
Pricing
The fee for long hair transplant sessions is 25% added to the baseline fee. For example, patients in need of 500-750 grafts ($5000) can expect to pay an additional $1,250 to have long hair transplant performed. Unfortunately, it is not possible to perform long hair transplant in the context of FUE because the donor hair must be very short.
