Bobby Pin Alert!

Public Service Announcement: If you love bobby pins, they may not love you!

This 55 year old female had a long history of wearing bobby pins to clip up her hair in the same spot on top of her head. Unfortunately, it resulted in a localized patch of traction alopecia. This type of hair loss can result from prolonged pulling on the hair follicles. Sometimes the hair loss is permanent, but in her case she has seen some regrowth using topical minoxidil and a prescription topical steroid. (See before and after 5 months photos). The best way to avoid this altogether is by changing your hairstyle frequently and avoiding sustained pulling or trauma to the same set of follicles.
