Dr. Rogers on Dermscopy published in Journal of Drugs & Dermatology

dermoscopy articleIn March 2013, Dr. Rogers’ article on the use of dermscopy for diagnosing and treating scalp disorders was published in the renowned Journal of Drugs and Dermatology. In addition, her clinical image was chosen for the front page of the journal.

Dermoscopy is an advanced technique involving the use of a polarized light with magnification to see skin and hair follicles up close. Dr. Rogers routinely uses this technique to help diagnose her patients. It can be used to identify miniaturized hairs, present in male and female pattern hair loss, as well as scalp findings such as erythema, scale, and perifollicular markings to help identify seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, or pityriasis amiantacea.

Using dermoscopy, Dr. Rogers has also been increasingly able to diagnose various scalp disorders without the need for a biopsy. However, there are many times when biopsy is still needed.
