Dr Rogers speaks at the ISHRS in Hollywood CA

Dr Rogers gave several talks at this year’s ISHRS meeting in Hollywood.

Dr Rogers was excited to host a coffee table discussion on the subject of female hair transplantation. She discussed with meeting attendees who is the best candidate for hair transplant surgery, how many grafts are required, techniques to get the best growth in surgery, and instructions for post-operative care. She also gave her recommendations for laboratory orders, the role of scalp biopsy, and concomitant medical therapy where appropriate.

As part of the general session, she was asked to lead a panel on Hair Care Products and the Science Behind Them. She discussed the role of various ingredients in hair products like zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, hydrolyzed keratin, wheat protein, coal tar extract, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid.

She also discussed the relevance and safety of various hair care trends, including going sulfate-free as well as keratin treatments and how they work. Her fellow panelists covered additional helpful topics such as scalp micro pigmentation and how to best handle African-American hair.

In another session, Dr Rogers spoke about nutraceutical supplements such as biotin (and recent FDA precautions about its use), plant-based alternatives to finasteride like saw palmetto and pumpkin seed oil, ginseng, and commercially available hair supplements like Viviscal Pro and Nutrafol.

Lastly, Dr. Rogers was honored to moderate a session on Diagnostic Techniques for Hair Loss. She introduced fellow hair specialists from Bangkok, Brazil, Italy, and California to discuss their digital and computerized innovations for the diagnosis and management of hair loss.
